Designing an Entryway That Wows (and Works!)

Designing an Entryway That Wows (and Works!)

You know that saying about first impressions? Well, your entryway is exactly that for your home. It’s the first thing you—and your guests—see when you walk through the door. Whether you’ve got a grand foyer or just a small corner by the door, here are my go-to tips for creating an entry that’s both beautiful and functional:

  1. Define the Space
Even in an open floor plan, you can carve out an entry moment. Try a console table, a bench, or even a statement rug to visually anchor the area and give it purpose.

  2. Choose Pieces That Work Hard
I love adding a bench with storage or baskets underneath for shoes, bags, or seasonal gear. A small table with a drawer or a bowl for keys is always a win. Think pretty and practical!

  3. Don’t Forget the Mirror
A mirror in the entry is a classic design move—and for good reason. It bounces light around, makes the space feel bigger, and gives you a last-minute check before heading out the door.

  4. Layer in Warmth
Think rugs, art, lamps, and personal touches. A beautiful runner or patterned rug brings softness, and a lamp adds cozy light (especially if there’s no overhead fixture). Art or family photos help tell your story right from the start.

  5. Add a Pop of Personality
Your entryway is a great place to show a little style. I like to incorporate something that sets the tone for the home—a bold piece of art, a vintage mirror, or even a fun wallpaper moment if you’re feeling brave!

  6. Keep It Tidy
The entryway can easily become a dumping ground—trust me, I get it! That’s why smart storage is key. Baskets, trays, wall hooks—they make it easier to keep the chaos in check without sacrificing style.

An entryway doesn’t need to be big to make a big impact. Want to see some of my favorite pieces to style an entry space? Head over to my LTK—I’ve linked benches, mirrors, trays, and more to help you create a space that welcomes you home every single day.
