How to Style a Coffee Table Like a Designer

Hey friends! Let’s talk about one of my favorite spots to style in any living room: the coffee table. It’s such a small surface, but it makes a huge impact when done right. Whether you’re starting from scratch or giving your space a little refresh, here’s how I like to approach styling a coffee table like a designer:

  1. Start With a Base
Think of your coffee table like a blank canvas. I always start with a tray to ground the styling. It helps corral items and instantly makes everything feel more intentional. Woven, wooden, marble—whatever suits your vibe.

  2. Add Varying Heights
Height is key! Stack some beautiful coffee table books, add a small vase with flowers or greenery, and include something sculptural or tall like a candleholder. Playing with different levels keeps the eye moving and adds that designer feel.

  3. Mix Textures
I love mixing materials to keep things interesting—glass, ceramic, wood, metal. Even a cozy bead garland or woven coaster can add that extra layer of warmth and texture.

  4. Keep It Functional
This isn’t just about looking pretty—it has to work for your life too! Leave space to set down drinks or snacks. And if you have kids, choose items that aren’t too fragile.

  5. Add Something Personal
Your coffee table is a great place to add a little personality. A framed photo, a travel souvenir, or even a favorite scented candle makes it feel like you.

  6. Edit, Then Edit Again
Once you’ve styled it, step back and take a look. Does it feel balanced? Is there too much or too little? I like to move things around and live with it for a day or two. Sometimes a small tweak makes all the difference!
